Hommage to Leonardo da Vinci – the universal genius was a particular favourite of the artist. In “Bavarian Leonardo”, Waske shows Leonardo da Vinci casually dressed in lederhosen and Bavarian socks on a Corinthian column torso, besides him a drawing of the Mona Lisa wearing a Bavarian hat, while Cavalier King Charles has dutifully taken a seat next to his master. Wit and irony meet old-master technique and painterly artistry here. Leonardo da Vinci would certainly have laughed.
