“The opening, a ‘cinemacopvision’ more than two meters wide, transforms the method of hidden foreground and background analysis into obvious ‘insight’: parabolically, the master of physiognomies shows the interior in the heads of ‘individuals’ who, seen from a distance, nevertheless coagulate again into mass…. A serious gentleman, in whose skull Hitler is ghosting, a woman filled with the guru, another one frozen in the look, in view of unbearably felt eroticism. And of course those who only have money or television ‘in their heads’. Only Beuys makes the exception, he thinks himself fulfilled only by himself, as a seer with halo. The masses, too busy with themselves to notice that they are channeled in the concrete shaft, only the fewest seek ‘freedom’ in the hopelessness – as slogans smeared on the walls: ‘I don’t obey’ – ‘I’m going to break down – are you going with me?’. Of all things, the picture was taken in 1984, and one may recall Orson Welles.”
