Art Collecting…

Art Collecting is so Léger

1990
Acrylic on Canvas
120 x 100 cm
Private Collection

“Art Collecting is so Léger” is most consistent within Waske’s Modern Art Collectors series. The title itself refers to the family’s focus on collecting, positioning itself in front of a work by the French painter Ferdinand Léger. The close intertwining of family life with art is clear. Their physiognomy has already adopted the master’s painting style. Parents, children and even the teddy bear are frozen without action, as if Waske had assembled a mechanism of forms instead of painting the figures. Only the carpet breaks through the arrangement with its sharp photorealism.
